One of these hidden pearls next to ring road. It‘s amazingly grown lava canyon. I would say it‘s very important to stop here whatever the weather. You turn to your left if driving east from Reykjavík on road n°1. Then it‘s about 5-10 minutes driving, you will come to a crossroad, one leading to the right uphill and the road you are on goes straight ahead. You can go either of these roads, they will both lead to parkings to look at the canyon. Some like to drive both of them, from belove or down the straight road you can walk up to upper parking. It can be very nice to stop at the lower one and then walk up along the canyon or the other way around. If you are not in the mood for that you can …

The beach right below the glacier lagoon. There you will find small icebergs that have drifted to the beach from the lagoon. Hali is a big farm a bit further from the glacier lagoon, it‘s known for a famous writer that was born and raised there. His name was Þórbergur Þórðarson. Probably one of Iceland's most famous outlet glaciers. Svíanfellsjökull was a very popular destination for travelers to go glacier hiking or ice climbing. Also, there used to be some movies shot on the glacier. Some that you might know, Batman begins, Interstellar and Game of Thrones. Svínafellsjökull has recently though been closed for all traffic on to the ice due to landslide hazard. Recently they have discovered a big crack in the mountain Svínafell next to the glacier which they are afraid it will lead to a massive landslide covering big parts of the glacier if it will happen. It's still possible to visit the side of the glacier for a great view over the glacier though. I recommend givi…

It is about 76 meters high sea cliff and about 1200 meters long. The first settler was told to have come to land there. He lived there for one winter before moving to Reykjavík and settling down there. In the summer you can go on a tractor tour to see puffins on the cliff, very nice thing to do.…
