Often referred to as Eldhraun. This lava field you are driving through came from Lakagígar which erupted in 1783-1783. The lava field is told to be the biggest one that came from one single eruption. This eruption was one of the deadliest eruptions that have happened in historical time. The eruption destroyed over 22 farms in the area, killing about 20% if the Icelandic nation and lasted for around 8 months. It also causes a lot of trouble around Europe and East Asia. Some People believe this eruption to be the cause of the French revolution.
