Jökulsárlón is coming from Breiðamerkurjökull outlet glacier and is about 7 kilometers long lake. Hali is a big farm a bit further from the glacier lagoon, it‘s known for a famous writer that was born and raised there. His name was Þórbergur Þórðarson. Skaftafell was a place for regional assembly back in the days. The farms there were moved up to the hillside due to all the water from Skeiðará. Since 1967 Skaftafell has been a national park and later becoming part of the Vatnajökull national park or since 2008. The area around Skaftafell is amazing for all sorts of outdoor activity, the most popular hiking trail there leads you up to Svartifoss (black waterfall). Svartifoss is known for its black column basalt surrounding the waterfall itself. It's a very beautiful hike and takes you about 30-40 minutes one way on a very good and well-marked path. Road F985 will take you up to Jöklasel, this road is only accessible for bigger 4x4 cars. This road will take you up to the Vatnajökull ice cap. There you can go for a jeep tour and snowmobiling with a few different companies, only available in summer. It's a pretty steep road in some part and around the end, you'll drive along Skálafellsjökull glacier a pretty big outlet glacier of Vatnajökull ice cap. In front of Heinabergsjökull you can find another beautiful glacier lagoon, this places is a little bit of the main road and not as popular as the other lagoon you have visited. Probably one of the very few places in this area where you can find hot water and natural hot tubs. These hot tubes were made by the farmer in the area. They clean the tub every night and they are open from 9 am – 11 pm. Great place to relax after a long day of exploring. There is no one there normally to charge you. It cost 500kr to get in and you should pay in a small box on the side of the tubs. Everyone should pay so the farmer can keep it going and can maintain the place if needed. If you drive further into the valley you will visit another beautiful glacier tongue called Hoffelsjökul. Is a tuff mountain standing in the middle of the black desert, along with some arctic lupine in the summer. The cliff is a very grown place and a lot of bird life is found in the cliffs. Is a very small town located on the road n°1 between Hella and Vik, there are around 800 peoples living there. Close to the road, you can find a gas station and a small grocery store and at the entrance of the town there’s a new exhibition center about Icelandic volcanos called Lava Center, a must see if you’re interested into volcanic activity in Iceland. You must have heard about Eyjafjallajökull. If not it‘s the volcano that erupted in 2010 causing flight disruption in big parts of Europe for about a week. Eyjafjallajökull is an icecap, meaning it‘s a glacier on top of the mountain, covering about 100 square kilometers. The glacier is covering the volcano. Eyjafjallajökull is a stratovolcano about 1651 meters high. Eyjafjallajökull has few outlet glaciers such as GÃgjökull and Steinholtsjökull. These glaciers flow down to the valley of Þórsmörk.
