Þingvellir is one of Iceland’s most famous historical site. Not only is it known for the history but also for the extraordinary nature. The first parliament of Iceland was made in Þingvellir in 930, the parliament came together there every year until 1798. Iceland also stated their independent in Þingvellir 17th of June 1944. When visiting Þingvellir you can read about all the history and walk around the place enjoying the nature and the history. In Þingvellir you can also walk between the two tectonic plates that Iceland is located on. Þingvellir area has been a national park since 1928. Þingvellir national park is located right next to Þingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest lake about 83,7 km2. The average depth is around 34 meters and deepest around 114 meters.
