Fáskrúðsfjörður is a small fisherman village. Their main sustain is fishing and fish factories along with the aluminum industry nowadays. Around 660 people live in the town. Back in the days, French fishermen use to come to Iceland for fishing, they had their base in Fáskrúðsfjörður, after few years of fishing, they saw that the conditions outside Iceland for fishing were really hard and therefore they made a hospital, church and a churchyard to be able to serve all the sick, injured and dead French fisherman. In the town, you can find a museum about the history of the French men fishing there.
